My Musical Culture
Now, here's some music:
My current go-to song is Emotional Machine by MARINA. I knew I was listening to this a lot when I played it on the speaker in my dorm and my roommate said "Oh, you played this twice yesterday." And those two times were the times she caught me listening to it, not the other times where I listened to it by myself. I think I like it because MARINA is an artist I've been listening to for a while and this song has EDM vibes (at most... it definitely isn't EDM), a genre I'm currently exploring.
A song that is meaningful to me is Beautiful People by Melanie. Melanie was a singer-songwriter who started making music in the 60s. This song spreads a message of unity and is a perfect description of how I view everyone around me. From the first time I heard it, I immediately identified with it and I've been listening to it ever since then.
I love the Beatles, but when I listen to the White Album, I always skip "Piggies". For some reason, it fills me with rage (respectfully). I think they intentionally made a cheesy melody with cheesy instrumentation. They were so successful, the song gets under my skin.
Hi Kerrigan! I really enjoyed your profile picture and think that it really captures your personality as a whole. Your first song, "Emotional Machine" actually reminds me of one of my songs, "No Police." The same way she says machineeeeeee sounds the same as how Doja Cat goes weeeoooweeeoo. I (respectfully) hate the Beatles and was relieved to see that it was in your bottom, I think that even though the Beatles were so successful they still had to have many songs that were essentially flops.
ReplyDeleteI love some of Melanie's music but surprisingly I hadn't really listened to beautiful people yet. The lyrics are really touching. Her voice is so calming to me. I think I prefer her song Psychotherapy overall though. I'm glad me you and Josh are all on the same page with The Beatles. Yes they were successful, yes they had some bops, but when they flopped, they FLOPPED.
ReplyDeleteHey Kerri! Ive never listened to emotional machine till know but i think it is something i just might have to add to my playlist. Just because it is a very cool song that i think i would like to hear more of.
ReplyDeleteHello beautiful human, thank you for sharing a photo of your beautiful face. I knew I'd find some radical tunes on this blog, and I was far from disappointed. From the songs I've heard from you so far, I can tell there is a distinct musical energy you resonate with and it's incredible. It was interesting to see you pick one song you don't like from a band you enjoy because I did just about the opposite.
